Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus: Display, Price, and Specifications in 2020

Samsung S20 Plus is one of the three best Samsung S series in 2019, Samsung Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra. This is the Samsung flagship phone you will be getting if you don't want to a 6.9-inch screen that costs about 1500USD. Samsung equipped this phone with pretty big improvements in comparison to the previous generation of the S series. They have improved the screen, battery, processor, and cameras. In this article, we will give you a quick review regarding Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus.

Design & display.

In fact, in terms of design, the Galaxy S20 series is not much different from its predecessor S10 series. We can generally make this judgment for all three models. The differences are very small. Speaking specifically for the Galaxy S20 Plus, Samsung has increased the screen aspect ratio from 19.5: 9 to 20: 9 this year. This made the phone a little longer, but also a bit narrower. The thickness of the phone is the same as that of the S10 Plus. As a result, it is not difficult to grasp and operate the S20 Plus with one hand. Of course, you cannot easily reach all points of the screen with one hand. In this case, the one-handed mode you can activate in the settings will help you.

Another noticeable detail is the reduction of the curvature of the screen towards the edges. Galaxy S20 Plus still has a curved screen, but this curve angle is lower than its predecessor. It wouldn't be wrong to say that it has an almost flat screen. However, we have to say that we occasionally encounter situations such as touching the edges and opening unwanted places, especially during single-handed use. Samsung needs to improve performance a bit more with the software on this site.

The front and back of the phone are covered with Gorilla Glass 6 glass. It comes with a protective film on the screen. Galaxy S20 Plus we've been using it for over three weeks now, and we haven't found any scratches or wear anywhere. Apart from that, it survived when the screen fell from a chair about 30-40 cm high onto the stone floor. Moreover, there was no damage to the aluminum frame. So although it looks thin and slender, it's a solid phone. Moreover, it is water and dust resistant. If you want to listen to music or podcasts in the shower, Galaxy S20 Plus is the phone for this. It is fixed by experience.

The phone has a USB-C port, microphone, and speaker on the bottom edge. The second speaker is placed in the thin line just above the screen. There is also a handset here. On the top edge is the second microphone with a microSD and nano-SIM card slot. On the right side, we see the volume keys and the power button. The left edge looks clean.

The glass surface on the back is curved quite a bit towards the edges. This makes the aluminum frame on the sides of the phone thinner and the phone looks thinner overall. There is a rectangular camera module in the upper left corner, which is the classic of Samsung phones we have seen for the last few months. This module, slightly protruding outward, houses four cameras and an LED flash. We also see a microphone in this section. A Samsung logo is placed towards the bottom edge.

Galaxy S20 Plus (left) and Galaxy S10 Plus side by side. Even though they are the same thickness, the Galaxy S20 Plus feels like a thinner phone.

As far as display is concerned, Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus comes with a 6.7 AMOLED Dynamic 2X screen. It occupies 90.5 of the front of the device. Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus has a 1440 x 3200 resolution with 525 PPi.

As we mentioned above, the aspect ratio of the screen is 20: 9. This screen, in which Dynamic AMOLED technology is used, manages to provide users with the high visual quality and pleasure expected from a Samsung made screen.

Although we used it with a protective screen film on it, the OLED screen of the Galaxy S20 Plus offers a high level of brightness and vibrancy. It is also possible to watch HDR content on Netflix or YouTube with great pleasure. The image optimization feature for video content is also available on this phone. You can also adjust the color temperature according to your taste. The viewing angles of the screen are high as expected, and it can be used comfortably in the outdoor environment. Depending on the presence of the AMOLED screen, there is also an Always-on Display feature.

We see the screen, which Samsung defines as the Infinite-O, in many middle and upper segment Samsung smartphones that have come out since the Galaxy Note 10 series. There is also such a screen on the S20 Plus. The camera hole isn't too big, so it's not too annoying when playing games or watching movies in full screen. However, since it has a 20: 9 screen, there are thick black bars on the edges when watching many YouTube videos in full screen. If it is in full-screen view, there will be considerable losses at the top and bottom. However, let's point out that we also enjoy watching YouTube videos in full screen.

One of the important innovations in this year's S20 series members is 120Hz display support. Like other members, the Galaxy S20 Plus also supports a 120Hz display, but in Full HD + resolution. In the maximum screen resolution, only a 60Hz setting can be used. In fact, when you choose Full HD + resolution, there is not a big difference in sharpness in the user interface. When you choose the 120Hz display setting, the smoothness of the interface transitions really increases. But it's hard to say that this made a huge difference overall. If you are not playing games, it would be better to use the 60Hz setting to save battery. We preferred to use Galaxy S20 Plus at full-screen resolution, so 60Hz. Our choice was in the direction of resolution.

When we look at the audio side, as we mentioned in the previous section, Galaxy S20 Plus has two speakers. The sound output of these two speakers is balanced so that the stereo sound effect is successfully presented. The Samsung audio profile setting that has existed for the past few years is also available on the S20 Plus. You can determine the sound profile that best suits your ear by performing a short sound test. There is also support for Dolby Atmos. If you are watching movies or TV shows on your phone, you can enjoy it with a suitable headset with supporting content.

We know that AKG headphones out of the box are of good quality. Galaxy S20 Plus users will do well with this USB-C tip headset. However, for the best sound output, we recommend that you adjust the sound settings properly in the Settings section. After adjusting the equalizer and similar settings, your enjoyment of listening to music or watching videos with headphones will increase.

Operating System Processor

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus s powered by the Exynos 990 (Global) or Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 (USA). This powerful processor is built using a 7nm Plus process for extreme power efficiency, and it has a neural engine on board for AI-related tasks.

In the Geekbench test, the S20 Plus scored 753 for single-core and 3009 for multicores.
According to the operating system,

According to the operating system, Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus comes with Android 10 installed. On top of that, there is Samsung's One UI 2 user interface. Before Samsung released the S20 series, it had begun to offer the One UI 2 interface to its existing devices. Therefore, we know more or less about innovations. Even with it a special guide to the Galaxy Note 10 Plus we published on our experiences.

There are some innovations Samsung has brought with the Galaxy S20. These started to be offered to Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series phones with updates towards the end of March. One of them is Samsung Daily. The panel on the far left of the main screen used to be called Bixby Home. Samsung renamed this panel, but it didn't change its functionality too much. Again, information and records compiled from different applications appear on this screen. If you are using Spotify and Netflix, you can also see recommendations for personal use in this area.

Another new feature is Quick Share. On the Android side, there was no robust and effortless sharing method like Apple's AirDrop. Samsung aims to close this gap in its own phones, especially as it calls Quick Share. With this tool, you can share photos, videos or similar content with other Samsung phones more conveniently.

At the launch of Samsung's S20, it was stated that Google Duo will be used as a video call application from now on. However, video calls on our phone are still seen in the classic video call interface. Maybe the change we expect will be made in the future updates.

On the application side, there are applications we are used to seeing on a Samsung phone. While various applications of Samsung are installed, various applications of Google and Microsoft are also installed. We also see popular apps like Netflix, Spotify, and Facebook. By the way, we see the Global Goals application, which we saw in the Note 10 series for the first time, on the phone. Thanks to this, you can earn money by showing ads on your locked screen and donate this earning to various charity projects.

Security and Ports

For security, the Galaxy device has an in-screen fingerprint reader. As time goes on, the performance of this unit gets better. The fingerprint reader of the Galaxy S20 Plus works very well. During our use of the phone, we quickly unlocked the screen using this. Face recognition can also be used with the help of the front camera. However, it would not be wrong if we told him that he was not needed much. It also supports the same classical unlocking methods which the P40 Pro has such as pattern and passcode.

As of ports, the S20 Plus supports Bluetooth 5 and NFC. It also supports VoLTE and WiFi Calling. It comes with USB-C. It doesn't support a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Battery and Charging

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus provides a powerful Li-Polymer 4500mAh battery. And the phone offers fast charging.

We have used Galaxy S20 Plus extensively throughout our experience. Maybe we didn't play many games, but we did a lot of things like browsing the internet, using social media apps, watching videos on YouTube or Netflix. We took photos and videos from time to time. We think most normal users will use it with this intensity. In this way, a little more than 24 hours pass between charges. If you don't want to stay halfway with the Galaxy S20 Plus, it would be a good idea to plug it in and charge it every night when you go to bed.

However, let's say you did not do it, and by noon on the second day, Galaxy S20 Plus has run out of charge. If you have a 25W charger adapter with you, you can quickly charge the Galaxy S20 Plus. It reaches close to 60 percent occupancy in half an hour. There is also support for wireless charging. If you can get a wireless charging adapter with 15W support, you can charge it faster than normal. There is also the reverse wireless charging feature, namely PowerShare. If you buy a device like Galaxy Buds + or Galaxy Watch Active 2, you can charge these accessories wirelessly with the Galaxy S20 Plus.

Well, the main lens photos are perfect. It's become more like a personal preference. We can say that the Galaxy provides more vivid colors and lovely photos.

Ultra-wide photos are excellent on this device. The details are similar to the P40 Pro and S20 Plus, due to the high pixel numbers. The shots are perfect and impressive.

According to zooming abilities, The S20+ supports 3x optical zoom with excellent results. It also supports digital zoom up to 30x, but the quality of the photo is clearly degraded.

In Night mode shooting, we've taken photos in a nearly dark place. The S20+ provides good results, but it depends, and the light is less.

As for portrait photos, the photos are similar to the ones taken by the P40 Pro, but there are some notes to discuss. the S20+ provides good isolation, and it takes portrait photos using the wide and telephoto lens. The S20+ and P40 Pro are very similar, except for the colors.

The device also supports 4K@60fps videos. It provides high stability and the results are quite good. The S20+ provides details similar to the iPhone 11 Pro, but the colors and more saturated and warm. Keep in mind that the S20+ also supports a Super Steady mode, similar feature as in the P40 Pro. It only supports 1080p. Unlike the P40 Pro which supports 4K. It is important to say that the S20+ supports 8K recording.

The S20 Plus has reached a high peak with selfies. The details are very close between the P40 Pro and the S20+. Both of them, though suffer from extra skin smooth.

Portrait selfies are excellent. The S20+ makes the face skin smooth.

S20 Plus: Display, Price, and Specifications in 2019

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus seems to be a bit overshadowed due to the median member among the three models. Galaxy S20 Ultra, the model of this series with a larger screen and advanced features, attracted attention. In fact, the Galaxy S20 Plus manages to deliver many of the functions and performance you expect from a flagship phone. It has a very stylish design, it feels like you are using a high-priced phone with high-quality materials. The OLED screen also offers bright, vivid colors, and it provides visual pleasure.

High-end Android phone performance is offered with an eight-core Exynos 990 processor and other accompanying components. Galaxy S20 Plus does not experience any stuttering or congestion in games and applications that require high performance, such as photo editing and video production. The battery performance may not be up to two days, but with the presence of fast charging, you will not have any problems with the battery. Wireless charging and reverse wireless charging are also important plus.

In terms of software, it is pleasing to see Android 10 and One UI 2 coming on it. Moreover, with Samsung Daily, the panel on the far left of the main screen that we do not use much becomes a little more useful. It's also good that Netflix and Spotify have been integrated into this area in more ways. Quick Share is also a useful feature. With the arrival of the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series phones, the possibility of sharing with other people will expand.

Although the Galaxy S20 Ultra stands out more in terms of camera capabilities, the quad-camera system of the Galaxy S20 Plus, which also includes a 64-megapixel camera, works well. You can easily use Galaxy S20 Plus on your special days. Having 8K video recording capability sounds nice, but we don't think you will use it much in practice.

As a result, the Galaxy S20 Plus is an Android phone that is worth 850USD. Is it worth spending around 3000USD for the Galaxy S20 Ultra, it's hard to make a comment since we haven't experienced that phone yet. However, we think that those who prefer the Galaxy S20 Plus will not regret these choices. What do you think? Do you have one? Does it worth a try? Share your thoughts with us.
