Realme is among the rising values of the smartphone market recently. Realme, which came under the roof of Oppo, has so far managed to make a name for itself with its sales chart in India. Shortly before speeding its wings all over the world. In this article, we will give you a quick review regarding the Realme 5i.

 Design & Display.

Realme 5i stands in the same place as the Realme 5 and Realme 5s models, which are visually in the same family. Almost the entire front panel of the smartphone covers the 6.52-inch screen. There is also a small notch at the top of this screen that houses the front camera. The handset speaker is also camouflaged just above this notch. The left and right edges of the screen are quite thin, and the lower bezel is slightly thicker. You can find details about the screen covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 glass in the following sections of our article.

On the right side of the Realme 5i is only the power button of the phone. This button can be set to activate the Google Assistant at the request of the users. The volume control keys, which are generally placed on the same side as the power button, are located on the left side of the phone. Just above the power save button, there is a SIM and microSD card slot. Two nano-SIM cards and microSD cards can be placed on the card tray at the same time.

The top edge of the Realme 5i has been left blank. When the bottom edge is crossed, 3.5 mm from left to right respectively. It has a headphone jack, dual microphones, micro USB jack, and speaker grille. While one of the microphones is placed on the upper edge in many phones, it can be considered as a different choice to have two microphones side by side in Realme 5i. It is possible to describe the presence of a micro USB port instead of USB-C as a disappointment. However, it should be noted that this is a parallel choice to the price of Realme 5.

In the design of Realme 5i, the "show" starts when it moves to the back panel. For the back panel of the smartphone, users are offered two color options, Aqua Blue and Forest Green. It can be safely said that the Water Blue Realme 5i, which came to our test center, looks quite beautiful. In this panel, Realme prefers a design called the "sunrise pattern". When it comes to light on the panel, the refraction of the light and the formation of lines resembling sunlight on the panel seem to have led to this name.

The Realme 5i has a four-lens camera system placed vertically in the upper left corner of the back panel. Just right of this camera system is the LED flash. Realme 5i's round fingerprint scanner is also the last element to complete the rear camera system.

8.95 mm. The thick Realme 5i weighs 195 grams. Realme 5i, which is a comfortably used phone despite having a long screen, is not a device that physically tires users.

As far as display is concerned, As we mentioned earlier, Realme 5i has a 6.52-inch screen. This screen takes up 83.2 percent of the smartphone's front panel. The notch on the top of the screen is home to an 8-megapixel camera.

Covered with Gorilla Glass 3, the IPS LCD panel has a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels. The reasonable viewing angles of this display can be described as "reasonable". There is no problem with seeing the screen of the smartphone outdoors and under bright light. It is worth noting that the brightness level of the Realme 5i's screen can also be adjusted automatically.

Adjustments to the screen of the Realme 5i can be made through the Display and Brightness tab in the settings menu. From here, it is possible to adjust the color temperature, font, and image sizes of the screen.

Realme's giving users the chance to make more precise choices about these settings can be considered among the plus aspects of Realme 5i. For example, for the color temperature, users are presented with an adjustment bar with three points marked as cooler, default, and heater. On this bar, users can choose the spot that best suits their eyes.

The blue light filter, which has become a standard feature on all phones today, is called the Night Shield in Realme 5i. Users can automatically activate this feature at a time they specify. Here, too, users can adjust the color temperature to suit their own eyes.

The size of the screen is quite suitable for multimedia content consumption. However, it has to be said that the resolution and brightness level of the screen makes the viewing pleasure a little lower.

 Operating System and Process.

The phone offers extremely fast and powerful processors.  Realme 5i  offers a good processor for daily use. The Realme 5i is powered by the Snapdragon 665 processor. Thanks to the presence of Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, Realme 5i can perform many daily tasks without difficulty. The presence of 4 GB of RAM also ensures that the phone does not get stuck in multitasking. Users don't need to clean background apps very often.

Realme 5i's performance is more than enough for the average user to do their daily work. Users do not encounter any problems when switching between main screens and opening applications. The phone does not have a problem with medium densities.

Visiting a website with Chrome, using platforms such as Twitter or Instagram while listening to music with Spotify in the background on Realme 5i does not cause any problems. Although the ColorOS 6 platform is highly specialized compared to Android 9 Pie, these optimizations do not negatively affect the performance of the Realme 5i.

Although the Realme 5i is not suitable to be qualified as a gaming phone, this does not mean that the game cannot be played on the phone. Realme 5i does not leave us on the road during our PUBG Mobile Lite experience.

Regarding the GPU, Realme 5i has the Adreno 610.

In Geekbench 5, the CPU scored 311 for single-core and 1369 for multicores.

According to the operating system, the Realme 5i comes with ColorOS 6.0.1 platform built on Android 9 Pie. ColorOS 6.0.1 visually takes the standard Android experience to another level. This customization does not have a negative impact on the performance of the smartphone.

With ColorOS, the standard icons of Android are noticeably changed, while the interface elements become "more colorful". The place where this colorfulness is felt most tangibly is the notification center of the phone. Notifications shown to users in the notification center are displayed with the colored icons of the relevant application and attached images if any. For example, when you receive a YouTube notification, you can also see the cover photo of the relevant video in the interface.

Another area where the colorful structure of ColorOS is felt is the application drawer. Here, too, while the applications are listed alphabetically, the application icons look very lively with the preferred background color. The apps that Realme 5i owners frequently make use of are shown at the top of this drawer.

Realme 5i has different options for those who do not like this colorful look too much. Dark mode support, which has become one of the popular elements of mobile platforms and applications today, is offered to users with ColorOS 6.0.1. When switching to dark mode, the black background is also activated in supporting applications. Those who do not want dark mode can switch to the grayscale view of ColorOS 6.0.1.

When a right drag is made on the main screen of Realme 5i, users face the section called Smart Assistant. Here, information such as weather, calendar, number of steps taken, and photos taken are shown. In the Quick Functions tab, various applications that can be used by users are offered.

Although smartphones have become indispensable elements of our lives, they can often cause our attention to be easily distracted. There are several features in ColorOS that can help minimize this situation. Thanks to one of these features, Smart Car Driving, when the user gets behind the wheel and connects to the vehicle's Bluetooth system, incoming calls and messages are processed in a distraction-free manner.

In addition to the Smart Car Driving mode, Quiet Time and Concentration modes also offer a similar possibility. When Silence Time is activated, notifications are silenced predictably. In concentration mode, when users need to focus on another task, distracting apps on their phones stop running.

In Realme 5i, the Phone Management application is used for the general optimization of the phone. Thanks to the tool called Component Control in this application, it can be checked whether the physical components, sensors, screen, and cameras of the smartphone are working correctly. Realme 5i also keeps track of these control processes.

Google applications, which are among the integral parts of all Android phones, also welcome users in Realme 5i. The Google folder on the home screen includes applications such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Duo and YouTube Music. When you go out of this folder, it is possible to see Google News and Chrome.

Although ColorOS heavily customizes the pure Android experience, it continues to offer some Google solutions as the default option. Chrome works as Realme 5i's default web browser. Gmail is the only option offered to users with the phone to access e-mails.

Apart from Google applications, Realme 5i also includes other applications and tools that are pre-loaded. There are some support elements in the Tools folder on the home screen that will improve the user experience. One of them, the Playground, helps Realme 5i owners to experience a higher performance and uninterrupted gaming experience. The Copy Phone feature enables Realme 5i owners to quickly transfer data from their old phones.

There are other applications that welcome users in Realme 5i. Among these applications, OfficeSuite and Opera stand out. On the social media site, Facebook is preloaded in Realme 5i.

In Realme 5i, under the Facilitating Tools title, there are some possibilities to make the user experience more comfortable. For example, the Google Assistant can be set to activate when the power button is pressed for 0.5 seconds. The smart sidebar feature makes it easier to take screenshots or screen recordings and enables certain applications to be run in the fastest way.

 Security and Ports.

On the security side, Realme 5i offers users both fingerprint scanner and face recognition for security. The fingerprint scanner, as we mentioned earlier, is located on the back panel of the phone. The scanner is easily accessible with the index fingers of both the right and left hand. The scanner detects the fingerprint in a short time and quickly unlocks the phone.

It can be said that the face recognition feature works at a similar speed. The screen is unlocked very quickly after the face is detected. However, users need to make an extra swipe to access the home screen. It is worth noting that the success of the face recognition feature in dark environments is also admirable. The phone also supports classical unlocking methods such as pattern and passcode.

As for ports, the device supports Bluetooth 5 and NFC. It supports VoLTE and WiFi Calling. It also has support for a 3.5mm headphone jack like the Realme 6 Pro.

 Battery and charging.

Realme 5i provides a powerful Li-Po 5000mAh battery.  And the phone offers fast charging.

The actual performance of this battery, which looks impressive on paper, is also in line with expectations.

Even in a standard intensity usage scenario, the Realme 5i's battery does not require charging for almost 36 hours. This scenario includes actions such as using the phone for navigation, taking photos and videos with the camera, and watching videos on YouTube.

The lower the usage frequency, the longer the battery life. Realme 5i does not need to be charged for two days, even if actions such as surfing on social media, texting, listening to some music, surfing the internet are performed on the phone.

Various tools are also offered to users in the Battery tab in the Settings menu of Realme 5i. Thanks to these tools, it becomes possible for the phone to save extra power or show extra performance. There are also various suggestions that users can apply manually to help save power.

The low resolution of the screen and the large battery capacity bring along a long usage time. This puts the Realme 5i among the appropriate options for average users whose primary criterion is battery life when buying a phone. With the 10W charger included in the box of the Realme 5i, the 5000 mAh battery is charged in about two hours.

 Camera.

Realme 5i has a- quad-camera on the rear as clarified: 12MP ( wide with f\1.8), 8Mp ( ultrawide with f\1.9), 5MP(macro with f\2.4), and 2MP( for depth). Realme 5i has a single front-facing camera, 8MP ( wide with f\2.5 ). The cameras come with LED flash, AI support, and HDR. HDR technology will help you when there's sunlight behind you. HDR will edit the photo and balance the brightness.

Realme 5i's camera application has the same structure as Realme's other phones. The application includes icons for HDR, flash, and transition to a wide-angle camera. It is also possible to shoot with Portrait and Night View modes in the camera application.

Realme 5i can focus very quickly while taking pictures. The phone, which receives the light correctly in daylight shooting, offers a reasonable dynamic range. The level of detail in the captured photos is visible even after zooming.

Although the camera shows a larger area when switching to the wide-angle camera, the level of detail goes down a bit. It is not overlooked that the edge edges of the frame are also slightly stretched. In close-ups, Realme 5i performs very well when evaluated according to its price category and shows a lot of detail.

Thanks to the macro camera, users can get close to an object and take sharp photos. However, it should not be forgotten that the resolution of the macro camera is only 2 megapixels. In portrait mode, Realme 5i does not allow to adjust the blur level of the background before shooting. It has to be said that the photos taken in this mode look a little pale.

The low-light performance problem seen in many phones in the same price category also affects the Realme 5i. Photos taken with a smartphone in low light conditions do not look very sharp. Even if the night landscape mode is activated, the noise effect in the photos can be felt.

The beautification effect can be affected by the photos taken with the Realme 5i's front camera. When shooting outdoors, it does not go unnoticed that the background is slightly overexposed. Although there is a portrait mode for the front camera, it can be said that the edge detection is not very sharp in this mode.

4K resolution video can be recorded with the rear camera of Realme 5i. However, stabilizer support is only available for 1080p resolution videos.

Conclusion

Thanks to the collaboration of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor and 4 GB of RAM, the Realme 5i performs well for the average user. In addition to these two, the presence of a 5000 mAh battery offers the Realme 5i a serious advantage over its competitors.

It is possible to say that the screen and camera duo are the Realme 5i's soft belly. Although the screen does not negatively impact the user experience, it does not look vibrant enough for multimedia content consumption. The camera, on the other hand, performs well in daylight, but in low light, it is far from giving users what they expect.

Realme 5i offers its users powerful hardware for an affordable price. It can be easily said that the smartphone fulfills its basic promise with its performance. Realme 5i can be considered as a suitable option for those whose basic needs are to communicate, use social media applications, surf the internet, and stay away from charges as much as possible.
